Basics 101

Without explaining too much about how it started, anime cartoons spread like wild flowers in Japan in the early 20th Century and then in English-speaking countries in the mid-'90s. It can be broken down into these basic categories:
  • Action - let's just say fighting and adventure
  • Drama - growing up and mushy romance
  • Science Fiction - all things futuristic
  • Horror - more like spooky, scary stuff
  • Games - trading cards and board games
Uh oh, why did they have to use words that were so hard to remember... and spell, such as:
  • Shojo for young girls
  • Shonen for young boys
  • Kodomo for children of both genders
  • Josei for women
  • Seinen for men
But let's just talk about safe anime cartoons which we call kid-style. You can see it in our headers, banners, and images. We do not and will not include any unsafe anime in this website. If you see any, let us know; we'll take it out faster than your dog can run off with a bone.
