Here's a Thought

Dear Diary,
I was working on another article for the website over the weekend and trying to think of situations where families could increase their bonding opportunities. You know, mother and teenage daughter, father and teenage son or vice versa. And I thought of the times I used to do jigsaw puzzles - still love to do them, just don't have much time anymore. I remembered how natural it was to chat when one of the kids joined me at the table as we pieced the puzzle together, chatting away - relaxed and unpressured - catching up on one another's day. What a perfect and natural opportunity for family members to experience that closeness we all treasure.

So here's a suggestion. Find an area (in or near the kitchen, if you can); where you can lay out the puzzle pieces on a table that family members can work on as opportunity presents itself. It's a hobby you can leave to stir the pot or check the oven and come back to as time permits. It'll always be there when you get back to it and who knows who'll drop by and chat awhile. ^.^

| | 1. | I forgot to mention that I love the color combination in the puzzle image above - and it's an orangy red; think it's the green background with it that makes it so appealing to me. Couldn't find the right anime image to color coordinate with it; but, I'll change that out if I ever find one. ^.^

| | 2. | Never had rats; had a guinea pig once. Loved the little rascal. Used to lay on my chest as I reclined on the sofa to watch a favorite TV program. Don't remember which program, but I certainly remember Snuggles. ^.^

| | 3. | I did something remarkably similar when I went to visit my grandparents one year. They live on the edge of a swampy-lake (not sure what you'd call it) in a very small town, so there was really nothing to do. We ended up going to the store and buying a pack of dominos.
That summer found my younger brother, my mother, my grandparents and I at the kitchen table playing dominos every day. It was suprisingly enjoyable and I remember it with fondness. Dominos is a great game, because it is competitive without being overly so. It is also a fairly quiet game, so you can talk a lot while playing. ^.^
Oh, and about the comment you left on my blog: Nope, not a joke. I actually own two rats and two cats. I love rats and have had pet rats since I was around 10. The cats are actually afraid of the rats. Which makes sense, as the rats are protected by the bars of their cage so the cats can't get to them. However, the rats can (and have been known to) pull the cats tails through the bars of said cage and bite the cats. So the cats tend to leave the rats alone. ^.^
