2012 Winter Youth Olympics

Heads Up!

The 2012 Inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria are just 90 days away.  The U.S. Olympic Committee is sending a team of more than 60 athletes. In a nutshell, here are some facts as of this date:

  •  Dates: January 13-22
  • # Events: 14
  • # Events: 63
  • # Athletes participating: 1057
  • # Countries: 80+

    Overview:

The 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games is an international multi-sport event held under the authority of the International Olympic Committee that will take place every four years, consistent with the current format of the Olympic Winter Games. The Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games will run from Jan. 13-22, with an expected 1,057 athletes from more than 80 countries participating.

The Particulars:

The sport program will encompass these disciplines - biathlon (cross-country and rifle shooting), bobsleigh, curling, figure skating, ice hockey, luge, skeleton, skiing - alpine,  freestyle, Nordic combined (ski jump  and cross-country), snowboard, speedskating (short-track and long track) - and a total of 63 events.
