Foreign Indoor Snow Domes and Parks - an overview

Interior longview of Ski Dubai Snow Park
Indoor skiing is a recreational pursuit that is growing worldwide and a year-round opportunity for kids to learn snow sports. There are about 50 indoor snow domes around the world, 80 more coming soon that include skiing and snowboarding.
  • Moscow will have an indoor park that covers more than 8 acres. One slope will be about a half-mile long. When finished, it could be the world's largest indoor ski park.
  • Landgraf in the Netherlands is currently the largest indoor-terrain park. It caters to both skiers and snowboarders. It has an on-slope cafe that serves warm wine and charges just $46 a day, according to the editors of Smart Money.
  • Ski Dubai (see photos left and right below), rated the best in the world, has five runs in its indoor snow park, the longest of which is 1,312 feet. One run is very steep and is used only by experienced skiers. A day-long pass costs $82 as of this writing. Other slopes are suitable as training and practice areas for beginners and kids.
  • Xscape - according to a spokesman who operates three snow domes in England and Scotlan... it's not a mountain environment, but it is:
    • The best first step for beginners
    • Sharpens up skills
    • Provides a reliable introduction to the sport
    • Maintains interest to keep skiing alive
Domes slated for U.S.:

With 3,000,000 square feet (280,000 m2) of leasable area, American Dream will be the second-largest combined entertainment, sports, and retail complex in the United States. It will be accessible via the Meadowlands Rail Line.

As you may already know from our outdoor activities page we encourage recreational sports in a buzzing kids world as a way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. So keep your skis and boards handy or get prepared if you don't have them; there may be an indoor ski dome coming near you and giving you another opportunity to participate in some fun activity while bonding with family members. ^.^
