Valentine Poetry
|
 |
Okay, kids, this is your chance to let someone you like know about it - on Valentine's Day - a favorite time of year for kids and parents alike. There are many ways you kids can reach out to that special someone in your life on Valentine's Day. The most common way is through store-bought cards with valentine poetry or messages. Most are romantic, many are humorous (like the very funny one on the right.)
And other forms, such as:
- Rebus valentine poetry
- Acrostic valentine poetry
- Whimsical valentine poetry

Valentine poetry you create yourself
Creating your own valentine poetry carries special meaning. Here are some fun ways you kids can celebrate one of our holiday traditions with valentine poetry. Get your parents, or grandparents, to join in the fun, too.
Rebus valentine poetry . . .
. . . is written in ink and has messages or valentine poetry with small pictures replacing some of the words. For example, a picture or drawing of an eye could be used for the word "I" and a heart can be used for the word "heart" or "love." See if you can decode these messages (if you get stuck, ask Mom or Dad to help out):
My ♥ 4 u |
'm about u |
a u |
Will u mine |
Acrostic valentine poetry . . .
. . . uses the name of that special someone or family member. The first letter in each line, in large type, eventually spells out the name of the person you're giving it to. For the name Mary or Dad, for example, you could write:

May each day bring us closer
And not so far apart.
Remember, Valentine
You're always in my heart.
Dad, you're always there when I need you
And I thank you more than I say
Don't ever forget I will love you just as I do today.
Whimsical valentine poetry
This is an oldie, but is often modified with just the change of a word or two:
 |
Ashes to ashes
And dust to dust
If it weren't for you
My lips would rust!
