- BF, GF (abbrs., boyfriend, girlfriend) Online chat room slang and abbreviations about who's going out with whom.
- BF4L (abbr., best friends for life) More text messaging abbreviations when signing off on instant messenger. Kids also use it to clear up things after they've had a fight to reinforce their renewed friendship. We used to link pinkies – do they still do that?
- Busted (adj., ugly) Nothing at all to do with being caught at something they're not supposed to be doing. It's a gossipy way of chat room slang for saying someone they see is ugly. Ew, that girl's busted.
- Cheddar (n., cash) Kid speak for money. Remember when money was called moola or lettuce? Now they say I need some cheddar to buy some boards (skateboards).
- Chillaxin (v., chillin' combined with relaxin') Updated chat room slang for taking a break (relaxing) or chilling out after a sports practice.
- Crunk (adj., awesome) The expression used to be far out when someone had an awesome time; now it's Dude, you should have been there last night-it was crunk. It may have started as a combination of crazy and drunk - crunk, get it?
- Cya (abbr., short for see you) Chat room slang to say good-bye for now.
- MOS, DOS, POS (abbrs., mom over shoulder, dad over shoulder, parent over shoulder) More chat room slang to forewarn the person they're chatting with that there is someone nearby. Guys use it when talking to secret girlfriends; or girls with boyfriends.
- My bad (n., my mistake) Used by someone who 'fesses up to their mistake – my bad.
- Off the chain (adj., cool) This is chat room slang for saying something is cool – a new movie, DVD, or fun party; .e.g., Oh man, that party/movie was off the chain.
- OMG (abbr., oh my God!) Originally it was only used when instant messaging; now it's used out loud when they see something weird or strange, OMG!
- Rides (n., sneakers) How about this chat room slang for saying Hey, watch it, those are my new rides you're stepping on
- Tope (adj., cool) A combination of tight and dope – when put together it's chat room slang for cool.
- TTFN (abbr., ta ta for now) Another way of saying see you later or that's it for now when Instant Messaging.
- Wanksta (n., a person who tries to act tough) It caught on through a rap song – probably short for wanna kick some tough a**. It's chat room slang for when you call a "wanna-be" out for trying to be cool.
