Cycling Sports are recreational and make exciting competitive sports. The four cycling competitions in the 2012 Summer Olympics:

BMX Cycling - short/demanding track; bikes have 1 gear/1 brake
Strategy - what to watch for:
Bunny-hop – both wheels lift off the ground at once
Holeshot – the first rider to take the lead after the start
Whoop – a small, wave-like bump in the track
Judges (inspectors) are stationed along the course and look out for:
Deliberate interferance or contact with another rider
Obstructing anothers racing line in the final straight
Two warnings can result in disqualification/relegation to last place

Mountain Bike - requires reserves of stamina and nerves of steel
Strategy - Challenging terrain and rocky course means opportunity for things to go wrong.
Riders may carry out their own repairs
Outside assistance allowed only in dedicated assistance zones
Crashes are common; a punctured tire could end medal hopes
Judges (panel of commissaires) oversee the event; Marshalls stationed throughout the course ensure athlete and spectator safety.

Road Cycling - requires immense strength and stamina
Strategy - stay alert, pace and position oneself
Watch out for spradic crowds, potential bumps and crashes
Don't be left behind with the main pack (Peleton)
A 'lead-out' - sacrifices his chances to the benefit of team leader
Judges (race commissaires) follow the race in vehicles and look for:
Intentional bumping
Riding "air stream" of another cyclist/getting assist from a vehicle |

Track Cycling - There are 10 Olympic Track Cycling events (five for men, five for women), which between them test speed, endurance and teamwork.
Judges (there are a host of officials or commissaires) including start and finish judges, referees, timekeepers and scorers who look for:
- Pushing, false starts, line infractions, unsporting manner
- Colusions between racers
- Racer being one or several laps down
- Passing the back wheel of the pacer before he leaves the track
