Figure 17, an anime TV series

…tells of Tsubasa, whose life changes when she awakens to a crash-landing in the nearby woods. Curious, she discovers DD and his dangerous "cargo" of maguar eggs.

With the assistance of his riber, a protective battle suit made out of an intelligent living metal, DD becomes a strong opponent to handle the hatched maguar. While DD is fighting, one of his spare ribers comes into contact with Tsubasa. Because Tsubasa is human, the riber doesn’t quite react like it should. Instead of going back into its original form after the battle the riber becomes Hikaru (the Figure 17), a duplicate of Tsubasa, including all of her memories.

The secret of Figure 17 is not so secret anymore

At first, Tsubasa is able to keep DD and Hikaru a secret, but one day, Tsubasa’s father happens across the three of them and DD is forced to modify Hideo’s memory. DD makes Hideo believe that Hikaru is Tsubasa’s twin sister who has been living with their aunt to make things easier after the death of their mother until Hideo was able to handle having both girls. To provide a cover story for his search of the eggs, DD becomes an old photographer friend who is photographing Hokkaido.

Tsubasa and alien in Figure 17While there isn’t anything objectionable in Figure 17, adults may find it hard to sit through the repetitive story line and day to day activities of Tsubasa and Hikaru. It is the alien-monster fighting present throughout each episode of Figure 17 that drives the plot. Although the battle scenes may scare some children, this anime is all ages appropriate in a buzzing kids world. Kids will enjoy the action scenes, especially as Tsubasa and Hikaru become the primary defense against the hatched maguars. (Figure 17 has helpful life learning messages, Mom and Dad.)
