Do Ghosts Exist?

Do ghosts exist? That’s the question, isn’t it? While most people would say no, a 2005 survey by CBS News shows that 48 percent of Americans do believe in ghosts. There are even those who make a living searching for proof of their existence, using various high tech tools to find it. Some even have their own shows on television, showing their adventures for all to see.

It’s a fair chance that if you ask around, lots of people would say that they’ve had a moment or two in their lives when they thought they were haunted or had encountered a ghost, such as:

Exploring grandma’s attic or basement after dark
Hearing strange noises that just can’t be the wind or the furnace kicking in...
Family pictures having strange faces in them
Recordings with strange noises and voices
Seeing their own breath in a cold-spot in a room
Or seeing items move without any human help

Go to any town in America, and you’re sure to find a story or two about a house or location that’s supposed to be haunted.

But, not according to non-believers

Of course, those who don’t believe that true ghosts exist will always have a “rational” explanation behind such strange occurrences. That strange, creepy face in the picture you took? That’s either a trick of the light or the film was messed up in development. That creepy noise you heard in the attic or basement? It’s either rats or bugs running around, and your imagination playing tricks on you… and what about doors and windows suddenly slamming shut when you’re the only one in the house? Of course, that’s just the wind, blowing them shut - simple explanations that make plenty of sense, right? It doesn’t help that there are folks who do go around making fake “proof”, using computers and other camera tricks to create ghostly images.

What raises the hair on your skin if ghosts do not exist?

It takes a strong wind to blow a door shut, and what if there were no other open doors or windows in the house? What if that picture you took was a Polaroid, which can’t be messed with since the pictures develop instantly? Have you ever visited a graveyard after dark? Would you? And one can’t argue the reason a haunted house stays creepy and abandoned, with the locals, even the so-called level-headed ones, knowing the story behind it and not messing with it, or people who have never met claiming to have had encounters with ghosts or weird hauntings in a specific area and having almost the same story of what they saw.
