Take kids fishing? Sure ...

anime girl fishing Many people take kids fishing at some time in their lives - often combined with a camping trip.  Having a family outing while the kids are young is a great way for them to learn and experience new things and have quality time together.

When you take kids fishing and do other outdoor activities such as boating or hiking you are providing opportunities for bonding through shared experiences. An example is when a father teaches his 10-year old daughter how to make dough balls* to catch fish when out of bait. Through this simple lesson, the child will learn a basic element of fishing at an early age while bonding with her father.

Take time for fishing

Unless you're into ice fishing, spring, summer and fall are great times to take kids fishing; especially when combined with a weekend camping trip or extended vacation. When you take kids fishing, it should be a challenging and exciting experience - one about learning something new and getting a more adventurous attitude.  When you take kids fishing and camping you can spend quality time with one another combined with learning about fishing and the natural surroundings, such as:

* baiting the hook
* removing the fish from the hook
* cleaning the fish
* cooking the catch of the day
* identifying birds
* identifying leaves and trees
* collecting rocks

Take a piece from the center of a slice of bread and wad it with a dab of Vaseline which helps hold it together in the water. Bait the hook. Reel 'em in! Our 10 year old used to catch snook with dough balls in the brackish canal water behind our condo in Florida.

When adults saw the size of the fish she was catching they wanted to know what she was using for bait.  You can imagine their surprise when she told them. She ended up teaching them how to make the dough balls.  She cleaned the fish, too, much to her mother's delight! For a delightful experience, take kids fishing.
