What are those cool paper birds and boxes?
It's Origami! Origami started in China around the First Century – that’s 2000 years ago! The Chinese referred to their folded paper craft as zhe zhi (said like: jzzshay jzzshee). Ori means “fold” and “gami” means paper – pretty simple, right? Monks took the paper craft when they visited Japan in the Sixth Century (six hundred years later!) and it spread all around the country. At that point the Japanese developed the folds, shapes and styles into really detailed designs that usually mean something else. For example, the crane is considered a 'lucky' Origami shape.
