“Witch Hunter Robin” is not an anime series to watch if you’re a fan of “Harry Potter”. Aimed at older teens and young adults, it features a different take on magic and involves many secrets and conspiracies. It’s one of those shows that one has to watch from start to finish to really get what’s going on.

Witch Hunter Robin – the characters:
- Robin Sena - a 15-year-old witch and Hunter with pyrokinetic abilities. A soft-spoken girl, she carries thousands of years of witches’ memories, allowing her to understand the pain and conflict between humans and witches.
- Amon - a 25-year-old veteran S-class Hunter and Robin’s partner. He carries the witch gene and volunteers to terminate Robin if she becomes a threat.
- Haruto Sakaki - an 18-year-old Hunter, he was the team’s newest member before Robin’s arrival. He’s the group’s resident hothead, jumping into situations without thinking.
- Michael Lee - a hacker who is the team’s tech support expert, able to dig up information on witches without leaving tracks. He is confined to the STN-J headquarters building after he was caught hacking into their systems.
- Miho Karasuma - a 19-year-old Hunter with the ability of psychometry, allowing her to “read” objects that have been held by other people and gain information. She acts as a sort of mentor to Robin.
- Yurika Dojima - portrayed as lazy and immature, Yurika would rather go shopping than go on missions. She does the most minimal work and takes off the first chance she gets when the job’s done.
- Chief Inspector Shintaro Kosaka - working directly under Zaizen, he mainly passes on progress reports and other information. A former police officer, he’s able to use his contacts to get information when the team can’t use the STN-J database.
- Takuma Zaizen - the administrator of the STN-J and the Factory, he’s also in charge of transforming witches’ blood into Orbo, the substance used to stop witches
The storyline:

Witches, people with a special gene that gives special abilities such that are more psychic than mystical, exist in the world. Some witches use their powers to harm regular humans, causing much animosity between the two groups. Young craft user Robin Sena, a 15-year-old girl with the power of pyrokinesis that allows her to control fire, arrives in Japan to join the branch of the STN, an organization created to hunt down witches that go out of control. Placed on a Hunter team lead by Amon, Robin helps them capture rogue witches while trying to fit in with the group.
Unlike other STN branches, the STN-J captures witches alive rather than execute them. Their goal is to try and figure out the secret of the “witch gene” and what gives them their powers. But nothing is what it seems and the Japan branch’s director, Zaizen, seems to have a few secrets of his own. |
A bit more serious minded and mature sort of anime, “Witch Hunter Robin” isn’t for the “Pokemon” crowd but is one for older fans looking for an intriguing story with “X-Men”-style action in the anime cartoons category of Buzzing Kids World.
